Bulb first
A standard bulb in a three-way socket gives one brightness only. Confirm you have a genuine three-way bulb with two filaments before assuming the lamp is faulty.
The socket wears out
Three-way sockets have a rotating contact that wears. Losing the low setting first is the classic symptom, and the fix is a new socket — a ten-minute bench job.
LED three-way
Three-way LED bulbs exist and work well, but only in a healthy three-way socket. They will not repair a worn one.
When to hand it to a professional
Anything involving heat damage, exposed conductors, tripped breakers or ladder work over a stairwell belongs on a workbench or with a technician on site. Philliparo Co. handles all of it from our Allen workshop — see our services or call (972) 798-3761.
